OUTREACH
Camp Hope
Each summer, Christ Church sponsors Camp Hope which is an overnight summer camp opportunity for children who have a parent in prison. Our Camp Hope ministry began in 2006 and has ministered to campers from across North Carolina. The purpose of the ministry is to provide these children a chance to experience the joy of summer camp and the opportunity to deepen their religious faith. Camp Hope coordinates with Angel Tree Camping and our partner camp, YMCA Camp Harrison. Parishioners support the campers financially in the spring by contributing to scholarships. Parishioners are also needed to pray, make calls, send cards, help with logistical arrangements, as well as serve as adult volunteers at camp. Additional volunteers are always welcome! For more information, please contact camphope1@christchurchnewbern.com. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Learn more about our program by watching this video, as well as the 2022 Camp Hope Slideshow. Contacts: Terry Brubaker and Nell Hudson

Pumpkin Patch
During the month of October, a popular destination in New Bern is the Christ Church yard, where thousands of pumpkins of all sizes are for sale. Families come to play games, take photos, picnic among the displays, and buy pumpkins supplied by the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. Church members man the patch in two-hour shifts every day in October from 10AM to 6PM. All profits go to local non-profit organizations. Contact: Rick Miller

Cookie Walk
In December, the ECW sponsors a "cookie walk" - open to the public - where
they sell homemade Christmas cookies by the pound. All profits go to local
charities. Contact: Pam Miller

All Saints Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
If you are an adult female member of the Episcopal Church, you ARE a
member of ECW. Christ Church has a very active ECW group that meets
monthly (September – December and February – June). We have interesting
speakers and workshops, which we alternate with fun fieldtrips throughout the
year. We host several fundraisers that benefit not only Christ Church, but the
community as well. We also actively reach out to our Christ Church seniors and
home-bound parishioners. Come join us the second Monday of the month. News of our programs can be found in the Messenger and The Crown - Christ Church's weekly and monthly newsletters. Contact: Rodney Hayes

Growing in Grace (GIG) After-School Program
Growing in Grace is Christ Church’s afterschool program that serves
lower-income children in New Bern. The children attend Brinson Memorial
Elementary School in 3rd-5th grades. GIG began in 2016 and has served
up to 10 students each year. The program is in session during the school
year, and volunteers from Christ Church and the New Bern community
work one-on-one with the children Monday through Thursday. The children
are picked up from school in our Christ Church van and are brought to our
GIG Room on Pollock Street. They work on school assignments, study for
tests, read, and develop lifelong relationships. They also go on special
fieldtrips and do service work to help others. We are always looking for
volunteers who are interested in offering extra love and support to our
children. If you are interested in learning more about our program or joining
our amazing GIG family, please contact GIG director Debbie Fodrie.
