EVANGELISM AND OUTREACH

LAY PASTORAL MINISTRIES

Angel Tree

Angel Tree is a Christian prison ministry that Christ Church has participated in since 1984. The children we provide support for have at least one parent who is incarcerated. The children live in Craven and surrounding counties. Contact: Ellen Chance

Pumpkin Patch

During the month of October, a popular destination in New Bern is the Christ Church yard, where thousands of pumpkins of all sizes are for sale. Families come to play games, take photos, picnic among the displays, and buy pumpkins supplied by the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. Church members volunteer to work various two-hour shifts. All profits go to local nonprofit organizations. Contact: Rick Miller

Cookie Walk

Our beloved Cookie Walk has been a wonderful tradition and vital fundraiser for our church community, providing meaningful support to deserving, local, charitable organizations. While formerly chaired by the Episcopal Church Women, this is now a parish-wide outreach opportunity, open to all.

Grants Committee

Christ Church combines the funds raised by the Pumpkin Patch and Cookie Walk, as well as the annual distribution from the Christ Church Trust to do a unified grant cycle. The grants committees reviews all applications from local charities seeking donation funds for projects helping local citizens in need.

Little Pantry and Little Library

On the lawn of Christ Church are our Little Pantry and Little Library boxes. These operate under the "Take what you need, donate what you can" philosophy and receive donations and support from members, as well as the community.

Camp Hope

Each summer Christ Church sponsors Camp Hope, which is an overnight summer camp opportunity for children who have a parent in prison. Camp Hope coordinates with Angel Tree Camping and our partner, Camp Trinity. The purpose of the ministry is to provide these children a chance to experience the joy of summer camp and the opportunity to deepen their religious faith. For more information, please contact camphope1@christchurchnewbern.com. Learn more about Camp Hope through the years by viewing our slideshow. Contact: Nell Hudson

Growing in Grace

Growing in Grace (GIG) is an after-school program for lower-income children in New Bern. GIG began in 2016 and has served up to 10 students each year. The children are picked up from school in our van and brought to the church, where they work with their individual mentors on school assignments, study for tests, read, and develop lifelong relationships. They also go on special fieldtrips and do service work to help others. We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in offering extra love and support to our children. Contact: Debbie Fodrie, GIG Director.

Volunteer Receptionists

Would you like to serve as the "greeting committee of the church" by volunteering to work the Reception Desk? Volunteers are essential to church options, and our receptionists can volunteer for morning or after shifts, Mondays - Fridays. Duties include answering the phone, greeting visitors and answering any visitor questions. Contact: Sarah Risty-Davis, Volunteer Coordinator

Monthly InGathering Collection

Every month, Christ Church has a collection effort for a specific local nonprofit organization. The collection table is located in the Reception Area. Contact: The Rev. Suzanne Hood
