CONCERTS

Concerts at other Music Events at Christ Church

Christ Church offers music events that include special services for the church year as well as concerts and performances such as recitals and ongoing concert series. A Carol Sing-along was offered during the 2023 Christmas season for Artwalk, a Bach recital series during Lent in 2024, and a solo piano recital as part of New Bern's Arts in April. An organ dedication recital and organ recital series are forthcoming in the Fall of 2024 following the summer installation of the Taylor & Boody Opus 85 instrument.

Arts in April: Classical Sounds EvolvedNew Bern's Arts in April comes to Christ Church on Sunday, April 28th for a 2:30 pm classical piano recital performed by the Director of Music. Based on the idea of music as a continuously evolving art form, with works such as Beethoven's 'Waldstein' Sonata and Chopin's story-filled Ballade No.1, this performance is intended to take the audience on a journey of sound development and evolution. Other pieces on the program are Ravel's Jeux d'eau, Berg's Sonata for piano, and Jacqueline's own improvisation on the Berceuse musical form.

Bach Music Meditation Series takes place on Wednesdays during Lent from 12:00-12:30 pm in the Nave. Performed on the piano are the complete 24 preludes & fugues from Book One of J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. Each week, four preludes & fugues are performed in the order in which they are found in Book One: the first week starting with C major and the last week ending with B minor (Holy Week).

All Saints’ Day Requiem. Performed each year on All Saints' Day, recent services have included the requiems of John Rutter and Gabriel Fauré, complete with organ and instrumentalists.
